Mumbai High Court orders immediate attention on water logging in Ajanta
Caves:
The Mumbai High Court bench has ordered immediate attention of Archeological
Survey of India (ASI) in stopping increasing water logging in Ajanta
Caves. The Order also has suggested taking suitable steps to stop
such water intrusion in future.
The Court took an English Newspaper News cutting as Public Interest
Litigation (PIL) that covered Caves# 17 facing water logging and causing
damages to world's most valuable heritage Ajanta caves.
11th August 2006:
Heavy raining to possibly afflict Ajanta drawings and paintings:
The Heavy downpour witnessed from 03rd August to 05th August has
resulted in water submerging in many caves in world famous historic
monument Ajanta Caves. This rain water could possibly damage the paintings
thereby fading up pictures and creating humid effect on it. The Caves
Numbered 1,2,16 and 17 are most affected caves due to this rainwater
submerging.
The Padmapani, Vajrapani pictures in Cave#1, the Buddha Life story
telling pictures in Cave#16, 17 are also facing terrible times due
to this heavy pouring and has become a critical challenge for experts
to sustain them. The Geological Survey of India submitted report is
yet to get go ahead from Government. The Cement Proofing, removing
of roots of trees on top of caves are some of suggestions included
in that report.

Greenery in Ajanta caves region attracts Tourists:
The arrival of Monsoon season has spread greenery and pleasant atmosphere
all around the Ajanta caves region. Ajanta Caves one of key attractions,
Lake has also started flowing with ample water and surrounding caves
are now covered with green grass giving effect of well dressed and
decorated cave.

Ajanta Caves Drawings preservation works begin:
The Archaeological Survey of India and Geological scientists care
group are jointly working on adopting various means to preserve Ajanta
caves drawings and protection from caves walls collapsing. The Authorities
earlier took samples of stones collapsing due to leakage of Ajanta
caves lake water and various groups visited the caves in recent times.
Amongst various preventives steps taken includes special coating to
stop water entry in caves wall and Nut-bolt based grounding of walls
as a special care.
06th April 2006:
Ajanta and Ellora Caves Identical copies soon:
The Maharashtra State Tourism Development Corporation in association
with Larsen and Turbo is giving an all new Ajanta and Ellora caves
identical caves at Fardapur while Ellora caves copy at road going
towards caves.
The Current Ajanta and Ellora caves are located in low light caves
and there are too many numbers of caves in both of them. As a result
not everyone or many visits them and the art is dispersing day by
day. Considering this factor and promoting them more, the Authorities
have come up with a plan of carving identical Ajanta and Ellora Caves
with Multimedia thereby giving Virtual reality effect. The project
is estimated at 50 Crores Rupees for Ajanta while 30 Crores Ellora.
The Ajanta Caves work has already begun while Ellora work is likely
to begin shortly.
